Think in assemblies
A door, frame, and hardware set are selected together. A beautiful finish is only part of the decision; the components also need to suit the opening dimensions, wall construction, intended use, and project requirements.
Three conversations to have early
Material and appearance
Document the door face, frame finish, and hardware finish together. Confirm whether the project calls for samples or submittals before ordering.
Function and use
Identify how each space is used, who needs access, and the desired locking and closing functions. Share the approved hardware sets and any existing building systems that must be coordinated.
Installation conditions
Clarify who prepares the opening, verifies dimensions, stores materials, and completes adjacent finishes. On occupied sites, discuss working hours, access, and how work will be phased.
Close the loop before ordering
Review the final opening list, accepted substitutions, scope exclusions, and confirmed schedule in writing. Availability and lead times vary with material, finish, quantity, and preparation requirements.
